HUMAN DESTINATION ON 12″ VINYL
We just released our latest record, Human Destination, on 180 gram 12″ vinyl. The package features the artwork of Robert Hardgrave, and now that we have it in this LARGE format you can really see how amazing it is. We keep seeing new things in it. We even decided to take our name off the cover so it didn’t distract from experiencing the art. If you are a Robert Hardgrave fan you will get another little surprise on the inside. This is the perfect companion to the record. Put on the headphones and enjoy the eye candy too.
The package also includes the full length version on CD just in case you don’t have a copy you want to play the analog vs. digital game with your friends!
If you are in or near Los Angeles, you can also get your hands on it at Origami Records and we will have them at our live shows.
Our 12″ vinyl release show for Human Destination will be Friday June 25th at Someday Lounge.

Latest – Our song “Wolf Blood Honey” which is actually a wolfed up version of our soon to be released song “La Paloma” from our also soon to be released album, “The Town with Bad Wiring” (coming in August 2010) will air on TRUE BLOOD June 27th on HBO.
We can also be heard on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES,- song “Pepper Spray” (Thursday, January 21st on CW) and DAMAGES, -Starring Glenn Close – song “Halo” (Monday, January 25th on FX).
“If You Are Hell Girl” made it on an episode of “Sons of Anarchy” on FX which is very cool. Past episodes have included a lot of bands that we like and or respect like The Black Keys, Big George Jackson, Fu Manchu, Katey Sagal, Warlocks, Monster Magnet, Black Mountain, The Toadies, Hill Stomp and Andy Williams. The episode we are on is called “Small Tears,” which is the second show of the second season.
Watch it.
The NBC series “Trauma” used our song “Hey Man I’m Kissing the Angel’s Shoes” on the second episode called “All’s Fair.”
Watch it here.
We are getting all geared up for another fun trip to Austin, Texas for SXSW. Our loving hosts THE BLACK ANGELS will put us up again and there will be many songs sung around the campfire after our shows for the day are played and I am sure we will visit a train or two. We have a blast every year. The food, the music, the people, the food, the music. So good. We will probably make our daily pilgrimage to TORCHY’s! where we will eat Republicans, (you would never believe how good they are – I encourage you to eat one today) Mr. Pinks (seared tuna!) and White Trashes. YUM!
We usually get confirmation on new shows on the trip down so this list is likely to GROW as it usually does. I think we had 5 shows on the books last year but ended up playing 12 including an “official” show so keep your eyes and ears open. We may have some pyrotechnics if we play outdoors (safety first) so be watching for giant mushroom clouds.

The Austin Psych Fest 2 was so fun to play last year in Austin. It was our second year to perform there and we got to hear so many great bands right in the birthplace of psychedelic rock and roll. It was dreamy. You can imagine our excitement when we just found out that it is now available on DVD. It features performances by us (The Upsidedown), Dead Meadow, Wooden Ships, A Place to Bury Strangers, The Shine Brothers, Sky Saxton of the Seeds, and a bunch of other really interesting bands. The DVD is available here.

Some of the songs from “Human Destination” have been included in the recent indy film “Water Wings.”
“Water Wings” is an improvised drama about a young man who is given the boot by his fiance after an unsuccessful stint in drug rehab. Miserable, he travels to San Diego to see his childhood girlfriend to hopefully get his life back on track. When he arrives and sees her for the first time in years, the rainstorm begins to clear. As they traverse the landscape of sunny San Diego and rediscover their friendship, the young man begins to heal from the wreckage of his past.

Ok so we had a blast at SXSW. We played lots of shows, got a bunch of new fans that said we were the coolest show at SXSW which makes all of the trouble seem totally worth it. Speaking of trouble… We are now snowbound in Wyoming and SteveVan is sick. Hopefully just a little altitude sickness. Waiting for the mechanic so we should know soon. We are not going to be able to make our show at Salt Lake at the Urban Lounge and we are sad about that but we just got news that we were mentioned on wired.com so that is warming our hearts some.
The last show Matt was finally able to unleash the pyrotechnics he has had up his sleeve and the crowd loved it. He can’t wait to play another outdoor show now. Umm that is all for now… The mechanic is ready up see Steve. Bye.
We are now near El Centro and are moving freely along the Great Wall of Mexico. Next stop Tucson, Arizona. We commenced the rock and roll circus western tour with Spindrift on Wednesday. It began with a very fun show in LA at The Redwood “bar,” more accurately the Redwood “Shanty.” A pirate themed place which went well with Spindrift’s new nautical themed video backdrop (which by the way is enthralling) AND there were real pirates walking around AND 10,000 Leagues Under The Sea meets Six Degrees of Separation from Portland, so many of our friends were in town. It’s a wonder someone didn’t drown.
There was a nice review posted on loudvine.com about this show. It’s recent. Just look for The Upsidedown!
Speaking of technology and trying to figure stuff out, we just got on Twitter so you can now join us on tour! For a play-by-play on twitter.com/theupsidedown you can join in on the fun, tell your friends and give us pointers. We also just got Wordpress for the iPhone which we are testing at the moment.
Props to Lee Cohen/The Dandy Warhols for freaking out on us for not blogging and tweeting enough! We have big plans and all of our woofers and tweeters aligned for magic Lee. Set the sails
OK so Wordpress for the iPhone (for fan/nerds). Truth be told Sara Jane just transcribed this from my iPhone because it didn’t post. I DID get that photo above to post but when I tried to repost it hated it. Kept getting the error message “wrong id yadda” but I bet it is just another little wordpress quirk to figure out. I am going to back this up just in case the phone app screws it up again. More later on that rock nerds so stay tuned.
Got to nap before rocking the Hotel Congress tonight in Tucson. Legendary.
This is Matt by the way signing out. – Jason wrote the first part on my phone until he started getting car sick then I wrote the rest and Sarah Jane transcribed it and tried to change my name to “Patty” but luckily I caught it. They think it is funny to call me Patty today.
