Beat The World

dandys
The new record “Human Destination” will be coming out this summer on the new Dandy Warhols inspired label Beat The World Records. We are thrilled to say the least. Excited both by the record that we have been working so hard on and also the relationship with our new partners.

Festival of Speed

MFOS poster 3MFOS poster oneMFOS poster 2

The Upsidedown will be suppling rock and roll to the Maryhill Festival of Speed in Goldendale WA, USA. This is the 2007 IGSA WORLD CUP (September 11-15). And what could be more psychedelic than wearing vintage motorcycle leathers and hurling yourself down one of the first modern roads on a skateboard? We can’t think of too many things more rock and roll. We had to play this event. For one thing long-boarding is a new favorite pastime. For second we love Maryhill Museum and that whole area. One of our friends got married at the museum and we played the party and fell in love with the place. And being the big dreamers that we are it is easy to be inspired by Sam Hill who made that whole scene possible… including the crazy piece of road that makes the event possible. Plus we love to say; “What in the Sam Hill…,” all of the time.

Summer Tour Moment #23

I would have to say one of my favorite days on tour besides the video shoot (which was way more fun than it should have been) was the day The Upsidedown played littleradio.com’s super fun BBQ. They met the Clean Prophets and they played with Giant Drag, Submarines and Restaurant.

———— below are some of my old favorites—————–

THE UPSIDEDOWN LIVE at the Knitting Factory- Hollywood The reason I like this one is because it is The Knitting Factory… legendary. I always think of “X” and Blondie and wow. We only had a handful of people to see us because no one knew us then but for me it was special.

I picked this because it was a great event and a great night.

THE UPSIDEDOWN with Hypatia Lake One of my favorite posters. With Hypatia Lake from Seattle and The Shrills from PDX.
THE UPSIDEDOWN at SLABTOWN
Ahhh Slabtown… we used to be friends. I picked this one because it was the last time we played SLABTOWN (before it sucked) and because I LOVE vintage Hondas… especially the minitrails from the 70’s.
THE UPSIDEDOWN Poster featuing made in Portland Prescription Electronics I picked this because it feels LIVE and it shows off one of my secret weapons. – Sonic Love Via Jack at Prescription Electronics
THE UPSIDEDOWN with The Makers This poster has a special spot in my rock and roll heart because Michael Maker himself picked me up in his fine assed Mustang Fastback. He whipped a Steve McQueen move in front of my apartment and picked me up. He had Led Zepplin on the 8-Track and it felt like about mmmm 1974.5 all the way to the venue. I knew I was in the cool kid club. This was one of the first shows for the THE UPSIDEDOWN too. At least with T-bird and Brett. This was a fucking cool show. Starantula too. Which I love.
THE UPSIDEDOWN - early poster And this is one of the very very first posters I believe.

THE UPSIDEDOWN - early poster

And last but not least I pick this because it was our first big tour… one whole month coast to coast in a little van. We became a band that summer and proved to ourselves we could take it and that we loved each other and what we were doing. When we showed up in the town where we were playing and saw this poster it flipped the switch in our hearts and it was showtime. We rocked… sometimes only for the bartender and his girlfriend but it was holy. We found our special place in the world.

Music For Headphones

I heard a beautiful, beautiful song the other day from a band called Music for Headphones from Philadelphia. The song is called “sweetened” and it just makes me feel really really good. Here is how I describe it… You know that song by Björk “All Is Full Of Love” where the sexy robots make are making out?

Borgs Embrace

Well this is like part two when they go for it and throw it to the wind. Wow. I feel suns exploding in the guitar fuzz and I feel the bluespot hit my brain just like the TALKING HEADS song. See what you think. I heard it on their myspace page. I don’t know if they have a website.
